Failed to Start

Postby Blakharon » 26 Feb 2017, 09:49

Hello, I've recently wanted to get back into playing FaF, but whenever I try to host a game or join a game I receive "FA has failed to start." I've done a bit of searching and tried some solutions like this one.

1 - Go to your Supreme Commander Forged Alliance folder ( where you have it installed ). if u have Steam version should be in this location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance

2 - Select all content inside the "bin" folder , copy it.

3 - Go to "C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin" and Paste all the content you have copied from FA forder. if appear a window asking for overwrite existing file select "copy and replace".

4 - Go to "C:\ProgramData\FAForever\lua" folder, copy all content ( there should be 7 files ), and paste on :
"C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin". A window Will appear asking for overwrite the existing files select "copy and Replace"

5 - Enjoy! =)

The problem I had with this one is that my lua folder didn't have any files in it so I couldn't copy any over. I've also tried reinstalling and clearing the Game Files. I would post my forever.log, but it said my post looked to spammy for a new user. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Don't just copy+paste your logs. There is an option to attach a file to your post or use pastebin

Please do not copy game content from your FA install around.

Please make sure that your game path is set correctly in the options.

I am aving more or less the same issue. I also saw the "Failed to start" message, but only some times. I can play local games, but in ladder games it freezes just somwhere at the start, and in lobby rooms the game freezes also at the start, just before the ACUs apear, and it freezes the game for everyone in the room.

I saw the "failed to start" problem also trying to get some ladder match.

I don't know if open a new topic, or if it's the same problem. Right now I'm just looking for help because it's weird.

I tryed also to switch UPnP, and compatibility modes with Win 8 and 7. Downloaded sound and graphic drivers etc... I don't know what else to do.

Finally got mine to run by running FaForever as administrator. Still don't know why it won't run without doing that though.

You shouldn't run FAForever as administrator for normal use. Please use the option to fix permissions that should come up when you run it as administrator and then run it normally. If that doesn't help, delete C:\ProgramData\FAForever and run FAForever again.
