Resolution turned automatically from full hd to lower

Sorry , if this has been posted again, but couldn't be able to find a relevant topic.

Today as I was playing forged alliance logged with FAF, screen suddenly got worse, a brief message appeared , that I wasn't able to
read in full , saying sth that "forged alliance crashed" or "forged alliance forever crashed".It popped up briefly, then disappeared.

Next thing I know my screen (which is able to display in full hd) went to 1024x768. Tried to revert to higher resolution, but in the display settings the higher available is 1280x1024. The same is true within game.

Tried to uninstall graphics driver reinstall newer older versions nothing. Part of my problems may stem from the fact the graphics card is an ati radeon 4870hd , for which only legacy drivers exist.

Cpu is core i7 920, Ram 7gb 1333ghz, windows is 10 64 bit home edition. Up until now Everything was running optimally.
