Offline Campaign won't progress/show objectives

Postby IansaneShadow » 16 Jan 2018, 05:57

Hey all, I used to play FAF using Offline mode, worked just fine, skirmishes, campaign, whatever. Now when I try and play the FA campaign, the first mission won't show any objectives (and won't update them, and won't expand the map...).
Any ideas on how to fix this? I don't like using Coop for "offline" play because you can't save the game.

*edit* also holding true for skirmish maps- they don't update when an AI is eliminated (and thus don't end the game when all AI are eliminated)

(Also, the last mission of FA is freaking insane! Getting bumrushed by Air within a couple minutes of launching, stealth Fatboy "drop" right off the bat, getting hit by a flying saucer within... 10 minutes? Plus the constant waves of attacks from both sides... I got pretty far last time I played in Coop, but apparently didn't notice my commander getting surprise attacked, and as it was Coop I couldn't save progress...)

This is how to play coop offline https://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?ti ... t_missions
not through campaign menu, but skirmish.

The 6th campaign mission expanding after 1 minute is a bug. Will be fixed soon with an update.

Well, I'm not actually trying to play coop- that was just my workaround to play the campaign. That being said I tried using the command line option in the link you gave me, and it loaded to the skirmish setup window but gave me an error about not having the map, and didn't show ANY maps available.

And my issue is with the FIRST mission (possibly more after that; I can't proceed past the first one).

*edit*
Well. So, it works. Using that command line option, and then starting the campaign, is now showing me the objectives in the upper right (they wouldn't show before). If I don't post more on this, it means it's working fine for the campaign.
Skirmish is still broken though- the command line option won't load any maps in skirmish mode, and running FA without FAF, skirmishes don't have "objectives". Not a huge deal, but basically once I've decided I've "won" I have to quit the map.

*2nd edit*
Welllll.... So, the whole map/game was wonky. HQ Factories had 30-50% buildpower than normal factories, nukes took FOREVER (seriously, I started a bunch of nuke silos relatively earl and was only able to launch a single nuke at the end of the game... by that point it wasn't even useful. By comparison I was able to build 6 T3 artillery by midgame), and stuff just seemed.... off.
And while the map progressed and completed objectives... at the end, it went cinematic, and just hung. Now, I suspect THAT is a side effect of the Coop mode command line, but it still means I can't progress through the game.

FAF does not support offline campaign, that will be broken. It only supports coop missions, that are in skirmish menu. The "workaround" was meant for testing and Im not able to tell you more without a log.

My understanding was that 'coop' can be played single player both on and offline. Offline you need to have downloaded all the files (obviously) and start through the skirmish menu.

If it was made obvious and easy for new players to play the (FAF) campaign then it might help new player recruitment.

it is easy to play the campaign

you go to the coop tab -> select a mission -> start the mission

it's the user who makes it complicated

You're right - it is the user....just just thought changing the wording on the coop page to make it crystal that you can play single-player or multiplayer co-op, and a link to instructions on how to do it offline if you wish (in the wiki) might help....

Huh. I used to play offline, before this computer. Maybe I didn't realize my "offline" link was just to my original install.

So how do I get coop missions in the skirmish menu? There are NO maps available in the skirmish menu when I launch using the Coop command line.

Oh, right, yeah, I'm making it complicated. So when I want to play the campaign without an internet connection, I just go to the coop tab and select a mission and start it, yeah?
Try it and tell me how that works out for you. Oh, and also teach me how to save my game if I need to go eat dinner, please?

How do you download all the files? When I've played Coop, it says it's downloading them, but it seems to do it every single time, even if I replay the same map.

i wrote a small page on the wiki a while back about how to play offline

if you want to play a specific game mode (coop/phantom/nomads/etc) then you need to use a command line switch to use the right init lua file.

maps are downloaded individually for each mission so you either need to start hosting every single mission once or you go to the github repo, get the zip for all the files and then put the map files into your map folder

by the way if you start the mission via the skirmish menu offline you can also save the game iirc

Well, that's the thing- I am using that shortcut. Doesn't work for the campaign, and skirmishes won't update with win conditions.
As mentioned further up, I've now also tried using the Coop command line, but that's broken in other ways for me. I'll take a shot at predownloading the missions and trying the coop command line+skirmish+mission maps, thank you for that link though! I had hosted most of the missions once already but they don't seem to "stick" on my computer (I've restarted one or two and each time it acts like it is redownloading the map/mission)

So far the only way for me to actually complete a campaign map normally is being online using the Coop tab. But I'm looking for a way to do it offline.
