Run the client without Steam?

Postby Zsombi » 29 May 2019, 12:02

Hi. Although I still don't understand the logic behind the decision to force people who like to use the FAF client to use Steam, so be it.

However, I don't want any part of the cancer that is Steam on my computer in any way. So, can anyone please tell me how to validate my game eg. on their website (without even having to download one bit of Steam) so I can use the FAF client?

Thanks. :)

This is due to copyright issues.

You need to own Forged Alliance on your steam account. I think you can just buy it on the website, I don't know if it's possible to activate a CD key without installing the client once. Afterwards you don't need the steam client installed. You can just go to the FAF website, log in, click link steam and log in on steam's website. Then you're account should be linked meaning you can log into FAF and play using the normal installation from your CD/DVD.

You don't need Steam on your PC. You just need to link your FAF account to your Steam account with SupCom in the library.

1) buy game in steam (or use key from licenced copy to get it for free)
2) link your FAF account to Steam account
3) instal steam client
4) instal game
5) let FAF create its own copy
6) delete steam client and steam copy

If you already got SupCom copy from other sources you can skip stages 3,4 and 6. You can use copy from untrusted sources as long as you have licensed copy on your Steam account.
