Uncaught exception [ERROR]

Postby spacemarine3 » 27 Sep 2019, 23:12

So whenever i try to make a game, i keep getting a window telling me that the client might become unstable, due to me using an obsolete theme. It comes with instructions on how to fix it in the " FA Lobby.ini " file but the section is missing. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated :D

You're using an unsupported version of the client. Please update.

Also:
Code: Select all
PermissionError: [WinError 5] Access is denied: 'C:\\ProgramData\\FAForever\\cache\\patchedFile'

I'd try deleting that.

I'm trying to troubleshoot a similar issue - just trying to get an old theme to work after not logging in for a few years (have DMed the theme creator) rather than any in-game instability though, so it's not a big deal. I'm getting the Uncaught Exception! error when I try to use the custom theme. As OP said, the error suggests changing the FA lobby.ini file at C:\Users\Sir Prize\AppData\Roaming\ForgedAllianceForever to remove a section, [theme_version_override], if I'm trying to update a theme. However that doesn't exist in that file for my version either. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the FAF client and also have FAF version 0.18.6+3151, which OP has, and this is what downloads from github here https://github.com/FAForever/client/releases. Is that not the right version?

Apologies if I should have started a separate thread, looks like these two things might have a related solution though.

I can't help you with the old theme. The client you're using is unsupported, has issues with the ice adapter and may stop woeking at any point in time.you can get the official one at faforever.com or github.com/FAForever/downlords-faf-client.

Oh so the old client isn't the supported one anymore? Fair enough. Can I suggest you/the relevant OP/someone who has roles change the link I used in my post above, which I got from the sticky in the red text at the top of this page: http://forums.faforever.com/viewtopic.p ... 63#p144702 as it's still directing to the apparently unsupported client. It's almost certainly where the OP in this thread went wrong too.
