FAF not allowing view of FA .exe to begin FAF [SOLVED]

FAF has me navigate to the installation .exe of FA. it shows a blank folder once i browse there. the .exe file is not hidden and opens FA with a double click or a keyboard shortcut button press.
why won't FAF let me view the working FA file, then select it, allowing first entry into a multiplayer game?

If you read the text, it said twice that he is asking for a folder. No idea where you get the idea that you absolutely need to select the .exe.

i thought the selected folder needed the .exe in it. backing out of the bin into the main supcom folder allowed the "finish" button to be ready to click.
other sources of electronic entertainment wanting the deeper folder containing a .exe, was what had me selecting the bin folder.
