I can't start FAF after installing it. It gets a "Side by side configuration" error. What can I do about this

After googling I found that this error is the result of libraries being missing on my system. Looking at the event viewer, it says:
(--------------------------------------------------------------)
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Forged Alliance Forever - Lobby\FaLobby.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.21022.8" could not be found.
(--------------------------------------------------------------)
So I'm missing visual c runtime v9.0.21022.8, And I think I know why:
FAF used to work on this system and the only change has been Windows Update.
Windows Update must have removed the C runtime of that version because of security issues.

You need VC redistribuable packages.

You can find them on the microsoft site. Chances are that any other program will require them too, so you better install them even if it's not for FAF.

I don't distribute them in the installer because they are really common and you should already have them somehow.
