Cant join/host games

I was looking through the join/host problem threads and most of them have to do with not being able to get the updater to work for FAF, I however have no problem seeing the games, as well as getting the program to work.

my issue is when i host a game, or join one, my screen goes black, but i can still see the supreme commander lobby mouse cursor. I tried a experiment with a friend and tried to join his game even though I was unable to see anything but the supcom mouse cursor, but he said that I did not show in game.

I am very bad with knowing how to troubleshoot computers, but good at following instructions, if their is some kind of thing i can look in up cmd with some command in which i can post whats going on I will happily do it, but am unsure as to how

any help would be appreciated, i really want to join the community! thanks
