Can't save templates

Hi,

I'm having a problem which seems to be unique to me. I can't save templates. I select the buildings, press the templates button, and nothing happens. I've tried shift + t, also no result. I've disabled all the mods, and it still doesn't work.

In options, 'Accept build templates' is 'On,' I tried switching it off with the idea of switching it on again and perhaps resetting it, but when I go back to options it is switched to 'On' again anyway. I've made sure the program is run by my computers Administrator. Other then that, I'm out of ideas.

If someone could help I'd be most grateful, this problem is holding me back on my build-times massively.

make sure you have a profile in supcom local 1st - scurrfy,

Take your game.prefs out of read only,

i would say delete your game.prefs and then run the game as local to set it all back to the way u want it,

A template should look like this,

I'm sorry to have you spell it out for me, but i"m having the same issue.

You need to run the base game (outside of FaF) at least once. When you do, you'll be asked to create an in game player profile if you haven't created one. Create that profile and that should resolve the build template creation issues.

I've just reinstalled SupCom and FAF, and I'm running into this same issue. When I last played, I had created templates just fine, but naturally they were deleted when I uninstalled SupCom. When I found this thread I realized I hadn't made an a profile via the normal SupCom menu/launcher, but even now that I've made one, my templates won't appear. =( I'd like to try the other tip about game.prefs, but have no idea where to locate that - I've checked every place I can think of.

And just in case, make sure after you have created your templates you End the game, not exit to windows. When you end the game and it brings up the score window it will save your templates at that point. If you just choose exit to windows the templates you had created are lost.

Thanks. I figured this would be the issue, as I'd been making templates in Sandbox. But I just tried it in a otherwise normal vs. AI game with no-rush, and the templates still weren't saved.

EDIT: I just tried removing the game.prefs file (I just moved it to my desktop), but I still can't save templates. I guess I'll try fully deleting both game.prefs and trying again?

This is getting to be a major pain in the ass. =/

Just to be clear,

Run Forged Alliance (not vanilla SupCom) standalone (not through FAF).
Create a profile if it asks.
Start a sandbox skirmish.
Build a few structures with your ACU (walled T1 PD, and note the faction you used to build it).
Make a template.
Make sure that template is under your ACU and build that template.
End the game, not exit to windows, just end the game so that it goes back to the Forged Alliance.
Start another sandbox skirmish and see if the template is there and build it.
End the game, then exit to windows.
Go to this folder location (Win 7 x64):
C:\Users\*Your User Name*\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance
Locate a file in there called Game.prefs and open it with notepad or whatever text editor you have.
Search for this text string depending on which faction you used to make the template:
uab2101 for Aeon
ucb2101 for Cybran
xsb2101 for Seraphim
ueb2101 for UEF


If after all that you did not find the text string, do another search for the user name you had created in the file. If you cannot find that then I am thinking you have some user account setup issues on your machine.
Do you log into your computer with a user name and password?
Can you install new programs with this account or do you need to enter in an Administrative password or use another user account to complete the installation?

The Mak, thanks for your extensive help. I can't remember exactly what method I tried and was failing with before, but I believe I was mistakenly trying to use the original SupCom and/or exiting to Windows instead of via the score screen. I was finally able to create the templates I wanted and can continue smashing giant robots together. ^^
