There is a problem with opening chat to write message direcly to your allies, key for that is Shift + Enter. But it doesnt work if last message you sent was private to specific player or even just selected to write to specific player without sending message and then closing chat. When you open chat again with Shift + Enter it doest set message to allies but to that player and you need to manualy change it back to team chat.

If you will look at it you all so could make chat messages(when chat window is off) more visible, by making black shadow under text

come on :P
