When in build range color ghost of structure blue

Postby Lionhardt » 21 Mar 2016, 00:22

Build range gets a little "fuzzy around the edges", with sometimes building not being in build range anymore while their footprint actually still is in. Would it be possible to show some indictaor icon above the building ghost as long as it is in build range of one of the units selected? Or give the ghost a different color, like blue. Or any other indicator.

This is actually a really good observation. I noticed a few key things, Lionhardt:

1) Large structures like factories can be built just outside the "range ring" by a commander while smaller ones like t1 pgens and mexes must be within it.
2) t1 engineers cannot build just outside the range and about 25% of the structures footprint must lie within or more the "range ring."
3) t2/t3/supp comms are about as good as a commander but not quite.

I don't have the exacts for each and everyone, but I use this ability to build a factory outside the range ring to get engineers as close as possible to expansion routes.

I support this idea to prevent comm walking!

I forget who said this, but it was also desired that an engineer/comm would stop and build at the max range as opposed to going adjacent to the build structure.

That is a great idea. It makes building so much easier. Morax idea is also very good.
We should definitely implement these features in the future.
1. Show, when a building is inside the buildrange.
2. Acu´s and engie´s using their buildrange and not walk directly to the targed.

Anyway having engineers start building at max range might help to reduce some engy clutter and reduce some micro, as well as helping to reduce the skillgap between good and average players (especially in 1v1), so it might be a good change. Worth debating actually I think, assuming it's possible to implement.

Yup, I knew I remembered this coming up. Sucks it won't get attention...
