Important Announcements e.g. PC Vote

Postby Morax » 16 Nov 2016, 18:10

So, could someone kindly explain to me why we don't use this forum feature to post and distribute key updates and news? I know it's taboo to bring up ZePilot, but this is kind of an answer to a problem we have with communication. After being in the team channel for some time now I have noticed there are not just several, but dozens of ways information is spread whether it's github, faf dev blog, faf client "what's new", personal reports, message boards, etc, etc. I could name some more if I took the time to scroll thru all the chat to see different sources.

Why can't we just use this section of the forum and direct people to one place rather making people learn all the different options? It is INCREDIBLY cumbersome and I can hardly see how anyone could argue that we have a communication problem.

Thank you very much.

I support that. The only thing the Announcement-subforum is actively used for right now is "Administrative Actions". Cleaning it up a little and using it for important announcements like the current votes and new updates would be great. It would be a significant step to better communication, especially if we get more users to use the forums.

I was suggesting this when visionik took over, told him to put announcements there together with other impornat stuff. Also discussed this with mod team, but I got refused, so I gave up.

Not true, and announcements are nothing to do with moderation regardless

As I recall people said yes to crossposting in both announcements and gen.dis but it never happened

Not true, since only ppl that could post there or move topics are mods, who do you think I talked to? And do you see the results?

Don't complain about that which you aren't willing to change.

if you move threads, you only get the result of no one seeing it because no one reads announcements, and a ton of people going to gen discussion and not finding the threads.
Crossposting or some other way to link them would be great.

visionik and Sheeo can post to the announcements forum just fine, they just don't.

I'm sure we could add a list of posters to the forum as well.

All in all, I think the announcements subforum has failed to do what it should be, and in the end, it's a poor choice as a way of newgiving and we should focus on a better way of news-dissemination.
Which is happening. Soon, ™

Well no shit. No one reads it since no one posts there.

Can we post important things there and if there is a need to discuss, it can have a link to the discussion thread that is in GD.
Or even better would be if anyone could reply to those threads, but only few people could make new threads there. Like admins, mods, etc...

And ofc some threads like Administrative Actions would be locked.

This is precisely what we agreed on before, and it never got done. Crossposting and allowing discussion in GD.
Sadly, we can't make them put the announcements there.

If you propose that we go ahead and manually fix it by posting announcements ourselves... doable.
