i know what stickies are.
when you enter the forum you see A LOT of threads in different categories (which are not seperated clearly...but that is not so much the problem here).
the only chance you have to see which threads are new is to look at the "last edited" date of each thread. this means you have to look through a dozen of threads until you find new ones.
the old forum style and layout made it much more clear which threads are stickies and are therefore long and/or important threads to read for newbies. these should be differentiated by color (e.g. a darker blue in the background), a totally different symbol in the front or have their own section called "important threads to read".
this way newbies can easily see which threads are important and experienced users can see where the stickie-threads end and where the new threads begin.
one more thing: when you are an experienced user (as we both are - you more than me), you know the forum. therefore you have no idea how the first impression is to a newbie. please ask a newbie and optimize according to his/her first impression!
